1.The world’s first recorded perfume was manufactured in ancient Mesopotamia during the 2nd millennium BC. It was revealed from a Cuneiform tablet. A perfumer chemist named Tabbuti made use of herbs and flowers. It was only later on that sophisticated forms such as fragrant oils and incense were used to create a perfume empire.

2.Evidence on the use of perfume, however, was found when historians saw a series of murals in Queen Hatshepsut’s temple. These murals were made 3,500 years ago. Myrrh and other exotic aromatics were shipped to and fro Egypt.

3.The word perfume is used today to describe scented mixtures and it comes from the Latin word “per fumus” which means “through smoke.” It was first used as incense.

4.Fragrances were used to make mosques scented. Arabs during the Middle Ages mix musk with their mortar as they construct their prayer building. Devoted religious people who come inside the mosques would smell the fragrance wafting through the air and on the walls.

5.Perfumes reached Europe in the sixteenth century. It was Catherin de Medici of Italy who had influenced people to wear perfumed leather gloves from France. The French country later became the perfume capital of the world. Authentic fragrances that are in the market today all have its roots in France.

6.It was a designer named Paul Poiret who influenced women in wearing perfumes on their skin. The courtiers began to give perfumes as gifts but later on they sold them to their clients.

7.A designer these days have more glamorous names if they have a profitable line-up of signature perfumes with their names attached.

8.A very good fragrance stands the test of time. Classic fragrances are still the ‘in’ thing even in the next generations to come.
